As part of the Easter worship service at East Church, a bare cross became the centerpiece of the sanctuary. Each member of the congregation was given a flower when they entered. Near the beginning of the s
ervice all were invited to place their flower on the cross. What had been a symbol of suffering and death at the Maunday Thursday service was transformed into a joyous symbol of new life on Sunday.
