Did you know East Church housed a Learning Pod for several months of the Pandemic? Remote learning was a significant challenge for many families, and numerous creative solutions emerged. Last fall the "Learning Pod" model became a nation-wide trend, in which small groups of children (typically 3-10), along with a tutor, learn together but not in a school classroom. East Church Deacon Loretta became aware of a parent group looking for a safe learning space for a group of 4th grade girls. After several conversations with the parents, and with the approval of East Church's Council and Property Committee, this Learning Pod began meeting in the third floor Church School classrooms in early September, 2020. Students returned full time to Milton's elementary schools at the beginning of April, 2021 at which time the Pod was disbanded. When he took the picture, Steve asked if the girls were looking forward to being back in school. "Yes," was the answer, "but we'll miss this place." How nice is that! In addition to Loretta, we extend thanks to Bob, Paul, and Kris for administration and logistics, and to Pablo who invested a lot of time beefing up the internet service to the third floor.
