2016 Highlights

This Album contains the images which were posted to East Church's Facebook page throughout 2016. We know not all of you "do Facebook" and even for those of us who do, posts get pushed down and ultimately disappear as newer items are posted. For that reason, we decided to collect those images in this album, and let it be a "highlights of the year" collection. We hope you'll enjoy this very condensed summary of 2016 at East Church!
Reading Changes Lives

Reading Changes Lives

31-16-2016
In the belief that literacy is essential to equality and justice, the national United Church of Christ launched “Reading Changes Lives,” an all-church literacy initiative, in 2014. That same year, the Rev. Shelly Davis and church member Holley Meyer of East Congregational Church in Milton embraced this literacy initiative, creating a local “Reading Changes Lives” program to serve our communities. As a complicated and broad social justice issue, literacy impacts other issues, including economic justice, gender inequality, criminal justice, public education, and racial justice. Church members have volunteered many hours over the past two years to provide holiday book fairs and book swaps, give away free books to trick-or-treaters, create poetry events during National Poetry Month, build a “Little Free Library” on the church lawn, and to adopt and reopen the Roosevelt Elementary School Library in Hyde Park.

AWE Services

AWE Services

30-13-2016
The fourth Sunday of every month at East Church is an AWE service. That stands for All Ages Worship Experience. The children and youth stay in the sanctuary for the whole service instead of heading off to Sunday School half way through. An effort is made to clarify the order of worship for the children, and to allow them to participate along with their parents.
