Pine Street Inn
God is still speaking here at East Church. Part of our vision statement is to “build and serve community.” One way we have been serving our community is by volunteering our time at the Pine Street Inn. We have faithfully helped serve dinner to homeless men there once a month since 2003, with our Senior High Youth and general members of our congregation.
The Pine Street Inn has served the homeless population since 1969, providing meals, shelter, training programs and other services. They have become a national leader in the fight to end homelessness. They foster a community of respect and hope, and have helped many, many people change their lives for the better.
Our involvement continues to be very worthwhile and rewarding. We have come to know the employees at the Inn, and also have learned more about the clients. Serving a meal with a smile is a simple way to walk in the ways of Jesus and help make a difference in the lives of people in need. As it says in the book of Matthew, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.”
