A very special Christmas Play, followed by a festive luncheon. What a morning!
On Sunday, November 29, the first Sunday in Advent this year, East Church presented its annual "Hanging of the Greens" service. Readings explaining the symbols of Advent were presented by the youth and, as the congregation sang traditional Advent hymns, the children set about decorating the Sanctuary. Following worship, an intergenerational Craft Fair in Fellowship Hall was a huge success.
On Sunday, October 24, 2010 East Congregational Church was pleased to host the Metropolitan Boston Association's Fall Meeting. The concluding event of the Fall Meeting was the Sing! Prayer and Praise Workshop. A broad sampling of the new Praise Songbook was presented along with a thorough explanation of the process by which the songs in this new collection were selected. Musicians accompanying the Workshop included: Vocals: Thom Whittemore; Keyboards: Branden Grimmett; Bass: Dwight Dewsnap; Percussion: Glenn Kidder; Trumpet: Fred Sienkiewicz; Flute: Betsy Maholchic; Guitar: Mike Maholchic. Rev. Wendy Vander Hart (Associate Conference Minister) led the prayer.
October 17th, 2010 was Homelessness Awareness Sunday at East Church.
The youth in the Confirmation class, along with Rev. Sara and Mike Bailey, travelled to Boston Common to worship with the folks of Common Cathedral. Common Cathedral, and their outreach branch Ecclesia Ministries, is an ecumenical church community that engages homeless and privileged people of all kinds in activities that work to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of homeless people in Boston.
To support their journey and to participate in this important ministry, our worship service on Oct. 17 focused on being God's hands and heart for the homeless community of Boston. Our Sunday morning worship service was held in Fellowship Hall where we sang, prayed and listened for the voice of God. A special collection was taken to support the Ecclesia Ministries, and we made and packed sandwiches, snacks, goodies, paper products and love for the homeless in our midst.
