Sunday worship on October 12 was crafted around Psalm 23 and a "shepherd" theme. We, the congregation, read the Psalm together in English. Members of the East Church community, throughout the service, read the familiar words in other languages: Dutch, Spanish, French, Danish and German. The choir presented "My Shepard Will Supply My Need" as an anthem. We even attempted a verse of "Savior, Like a Shepard Lead Us" in Hawaiian! Pastor Shelly's reflection taught us that, although Psalm 23 is often read at funerals, the message is equally for the living. We also learned that a more faithful translation might say, in a more active tense, "surely goodness and mercy shall PURSUE me all the days of my life…". She concluded her reflection with an a cappella offering of Bobby McFerrin's "The 23rd Psalm." And then we all enjoyed a very successful potluck coffee hour!
May 18, 2014 was a joy-filled day. During worship we recognized the faith journey of five of our youth in a Confirmation Liturgy. Then we proceeded to a lunch extravaganza in Fellowship Hall to celebrate the shared ministry we have enjoyed with Pastor Mark.
A Palm Procession, special music, pony rides (in a light drizzle!) and a fantastic coffee hour and presentaton by Jenna Hughes on her recent mssion trip to Haiti - a lot got packed into one day!
Worship on June 15 featured the youth and Children of East Church, and recognized the many people who have worked hard to make another successful year possible.
Sunday, December 14 featured a lovely Children's Christmas Pageant followed by a warm gathering in Fellowship Hall for an Advent Luncheon.
The pageant was made possible thanks to the leadership of Ann, Jenny, Brian, Suzanne, and Lynn.
Thanks also to Janice for taking the lead on organizing the Luncheon, to Donny and the East Church elves who set up and cleaned up the hall, to the generous chefs who brought pot luck offerings, and to the Milton Fruit Center Marketplace for their donation of delicious sandwiches.
