What We Believe
East Congregational Church remains faithful to our Congregational heritage and follows the founding principles of the United Church of Christ. The UCC does not have a hierarchy. Authority rests with the local congregation. As a congregation, therefore, we act in accordance with the collective decisions of our members, always praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. At the same time we remain in covenant with other UCC churches, offering support and working together for the common good.
This tradition not only allows for, but celebrates, the diversity of our community. Members and friends come from different faith backgrounds and understandings. At East Church, we respect those differences and strive to help each other in our respective faith journeys and in our particular life passages. We do not always agree, but we find the way to work together to be God’s people in the world.
Acting collectively while respecting differences. Two fine examples of this process at East Church are our Vision Statement and our Open and Affirming Covenant of Community.
