East Church’s Vision Statement:
As a congregation, we act in accordance with the collective decisions of our members, always praying for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. After a time of work and prayerful discernment, we adopted the following as our vision:
Drawn together in the mystery of God and led by Christ
we will grow in the Spirit
by engaging faith, embracing change, and seeking justice for all.
Through a similar process of discernment and collective discussion we adopted the following as East Church’s Mission Statement:
Building and serving community in Christ's name.
These two statements guide our communal life and are foundational for our ministries and programs. One important outgrowth of this Vision Statement was the congregation’s decision to become an Open and Affirming Congregation. In February of 2004, the church voted to adopt our Covenant of Community statement, explicitly extending our welcome to all, regardless of sexual orientation.
